A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
To delete a tenant in Microsoft Entra, you must first ensure that all license-based subscriptions are in a Deprovisioned state. If you have activated license-based subscriptions like Microsoft Entra ID P2 or Microsoft 365, you cannot delete the organization until these subscriptions are fully deleted.
Here are the steps to resolve the issue:
- Cancel the Subscription: Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center, sign in with a Global Administrator account, and navigate to Billing > Your products. Select the subscription you want to cancel and follow the prompts to cancel it.
- Wait for the Subscription to Enter Disabled State: After cancellation, the subscription will enter a Disabled state for 30 days.
- Deprovision the Subscription: After the 30 days, the subscription will enter the Deprovisioned state. Ensure that it has fully transitioned to this state before attempting to delete the tenant.
- Check for Other Subscriptions: Make sure there are no other active or canceled subscriptions that might be blocking the deletion of the tenant.
- Delete the Tenant: Once all subscriptions are in the Deprovisioned state, you can proceed to delete the tenant from the Azure portal.
Following these steps should help you successfully delete the license-based subscriptions resource and allow you to delete the tenant.
