Sharepoint Tool Rate Limits

Hello,

I have a foundry agent connected to sharepoint grounding.

The agent makes 1 call to the sharepoint tool per request.

After around 200 requests (it varies between 180-230), the tool errors and the errors go away after 1 hour.

When calling an agent in the new foundry, the response is:

'Error code: 400 - {'error': {'message': '{"error": "Tool_User_Error", "message": "[Sharepoint-tool] Request to Graph API failed, with error-code: UnknownError and error-message: . Client Request Id: 954cbdbe-626c-45b5-a678-a5a7ce41c2cb. Find out more troubleshooting details here - https://aka.ms/foundrysharepointtroubleshooting", "code": "sharepoint_grounding_tool_user_error", "tool": "sharepoint_grounding", "allow_retry": false, "extra_info": null}', 'type': 'invalid_request_error', 'param': None, 'code': 'tool_user_error'}}'

when calling an agent in the old foundry (connected to the same sharepoint site), the response is:

tool_user_error: Error: sharepoint_tool_quota_limit_reached; RunId: <run_id>

what is this quota limit and how can I increase it?

is it on the sharepoint side or foundry side?

No information is returned on what limit is hit and what the retry period is.

Thanks in advance for any help

Aaron

The error you are encountering with the SharePoint tool appears to be related to quota limits imposed by SharePoint. Specifically, the message you received indicates that the quota limit for the SharePoint tool has been reached. This can occur when the number of requests exceeds the allowed limits set by SharePoint for a given time period.

According to the information available, SharePoint has various throttling limits, including:

    • Requests per site: There are limits on the number of requests that can be made to SharePoint within a specific time frame. For example, there are limits on anonymous links and downloads, as well as external sharing emails.
    • API rate limits: SharePoint APIs have different costs associated with them, and these costs are expressed in resource units. Exceeding the resource units allocated for your application can lead to throttling.

To address your issue, you may want to consider the following options:

    1. Monitor your request rate: Ensure that your application is not exceeding the allowed request limits. You can implement a backoff strategy to space out requests when nearing the limit.
    2. Increase your limits: Depending on your SharePoint plan, you may be able to request an increase in your limits. This typically involves contacting Microsoft support or your account representative.
    3. Optimize your requests: Review the API calls being made and see if you can reduce the frequency or batch requests to stay within the limits.

Unfortunately, there is no direct way to increase the quota limits without going through Microsoft support, and the specific limit that is being hit may not be explicitly stated in the error messages you receive. It is advisable to consult the SharePoint documentation or support for detailed guidance on your specific situation.
