Hello,
BitLocker uses AES encryption designed specifically to prevent access without the 48-digit recovery key; there is technically no backdoor, bypass, or "password reset" mechanism for the drive itself once the TPM is locked or the PIN is forgotten. If the recovery key was not saved to a Microsoft Account, Active Directory, or printed physically, the data on that specific volume is cryptographically inaccessible.
Before accepting data loss, ensure you have checked the specific URL https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey with every email address possibly associated with the machine. A common scenario we see in support is that the key was automatically uploaded to a "Work or School" account (Azure Active Directory/Entra ID) rather than a personal Microsoft account. This often happens if you simply signed into Office 365, Teams, or a university portal on the device. If you see a "Key ID" on your blue BitLocker screen, write down the first 8 characters and contact the IT helpdesk of any organization (school or employer) you've connected with; they can search their Entra ID specifically for that Key ID to see if the key resides in their tenant.
If you have exhausted all account checks and the key is truly lost, the only technical resolution to make the computer usable again is to perform a clean installation of Windows. This is a destructive process that will wipe all data on the drive. You will need to create Windows installation media on a USB drive using the Media Creation Tool from a different working computer. Boot your locked PC from this USB, select "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)," and when you reach the drive selection screen, you must delete the encrypted partitions until you see "Unallocated Space." You can then install Windows into that space. This restores the hardware to functionality, though the previous data is lost.
I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!
