Persistent message to restart PC under Shell handwriting setting in windows 11

This is a new Lenovo laptop with an active pen and touchscreen.

This is the message i see in settings > Bluetooth and devices > Pen and Windows Ink > Shell handwriting

I would like to understand why this message is not going away even after multiple reboots both when toggle switch is on and off position

Also please explain what exactly this option does and its utility

The restart message is a Windows 11 settings bug rather than a hardware issue. This has been reported across:

  • Lenovo Yoga / IdeaPad
  • Surface devices
  • HP Spectre / Dell 2-in-1s All on Windows 11
  • Quick Test for Shell Handwriting: Keep Shell Handwriting = ON Open Start menu Tap the search box with your pen Begin writing If text appears as you write, the feature is working—regardless of whether any message displays. There is nothing broken. Microsoft hasn’t provided a fix yet. Use Lenovo Vantage to update pen/touchscreen drivers and firmware.Make sure your Lenovo laptop is fully updated with the latest Windows cumulative updates.
