SQL SERVER 2019 RTM GDR AND ERROR 0x851a0042

Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.3 GB usable)

Never been able to get the SQL server 2019 running on this 1 year old computer; Error; install error - 0x851a0042; Windows update (KB5068405) Had to move a program to another computer because of it. Any suggestion?

Try Installing SQL Server 2019 with the latest CU (CU 31 or newer)

If it still fails, Temporarily uninstall Windows update KB5068405, Reboot and then install Install SQL Server 2019 (latest CU).

For a long term solution Install SQL Server 2022.

Please let us if you have still any issues.

KB5068405 is a security GDR for SQL Server 2019. If Windows is trying to apply this update, that would be because you already have SQL Server on the machine. Then again, you say it has never been working, so maybe you have a broken installation? I'm sorry if that is a stupid question, but I only know as much about your machine as you tell me.

In C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\150\Setup Bootstrap\Log, you find one folder per each installation attempt. There are many log files in these folders. Of most interest are detail.txt and summary.txt. Feel free to attach them here.

Hi Rekha, Thanks for the information. I decided since the ACT database that uses the SQL server failed its own installation that it would be best to uninstall this 2019 SQL version and the Act7 instance which is linked to that failed installed.

If I try to load a new version of this standalone database called ACT I see one can now use SQL 2022 which sounds good. I think I will do a custom install and install the enterprize version of SQL server 2022. Get it running correctly and then load the Act Contact Relation marketing program.

All that said thanks for your help and it was a SQL SERVER 2019 that was loaded and working about 6 months before it was that update KB5068405 that failed as of late. I uninstalled those Win updates first and then the main application. Lets see where it goes.
