Unable to refund a gifted digital game purchase

I purchased a gift copy of a game which my friend already had, and therefore was unable to redeem. I've been walked in circles by the help pages on your website and below is what I can confirm:

The order number is: 1770478347. The purchase was made on January 17, 2026.

As an aside - your AI chat is terrible. It seems to be no better than a site search and has only added frustration to this process. Additionally, literally NONE of the tags that could be selected above apply to xbox or digital purchases. I cannot understand how something as trivial as refunding a gift purchase for an already owned item (which probably should be checked at purchase time) can be this difficult or frustrating.

I sincerely doubt I will receive any type of useful help from this post, or that this is even the correct avenue for this. If there is any type of contact info for an actual support team that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Will

It seems you are experiencing issues with refunding a gifted digital game purchase. According to the Microsoft Store's refund policy, users can request refunds for digital content under certain conditions. However, for gifted items, the refund process may differ, and it might not be straightforward if the option is not available in your order history.

Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Check Refund Eligibility: Ensure that the purchase is eligible for a refund. Typically, digital purchases must be within a certain time frame (usually 14 days) and not have been used.
    2. Contact Xbox Support: Since you mentioned that the refund option is not appearing, it may be best to reach out directly to Xbox Support for assistance. They can provide specific guidance on how to proceed with your situation. You can find support options on the Xbox support website.
    3. Wait for Processing: Sometimes, it may take a few days for the system to update and show the refund option for gifted purchases. If it has been less than 14 days, you might want to check back after a few more days.

If you continue to face difficulties, contacting Xbox Support directly will likely yield the best results, as they can assist with specific account-related issues.
