OneNote Notebooks not showing in OneDrive

I am on the newest version of MacOS, but this issue has been there even before the update.

I have 2 Notebooks on OneNote, one of them I don't use, the other one has 100+ pages. I can access everything normally from the Mac App, and on the upper corner it says that everything is synchronised.

When I try to access everything from the web app, it doesn't show my notebooks in the last used section. Bildschirmfoto 2026-01-23 um 11.30.30.png

Same Issue when I try to access them from the OneNote website. It shows everything else, Word documents, Powerpoint, etc.. Bildschirmfoto 2026-01-23 um 11.06.55.png

But when I go to OneNote - nothing. Bildschirmfoto 2026-01-23 um 11.12.18.png

The only way I can access them is when I go to "my files" and then there's a link to one Notebook (the one I don't even use). When I open that it also shows my other Notebook and all notes etc. after a bunch of loading time. What's weird about that is that the date of this notebook link is way too old, it doesn't update somehow. Bildschirmfoto 2026-01-23 um 11.14.04.png

I am concerned that one day my notebooks will be gone bc of this, bc they don't seem to be properly synchronised.

I have the iOS OneNote app, and my notes sync perfectly from there to my Mac App. When I tried to access this from a windows PC, I ran into the same problem.

Please tell me how to fix this

    Hello lalele0000,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I realize that you've encountered a problem with OneNote Notebooks not showing in OneDrive. I truly understand your confusion. Let me assist you further.

Based on your description, It looks like your OneNote notebooks are syncing on your Mac and iOS devices but are not appearing correctly in OneDrive or OneNote for the web. I am so sorry for the inconvenient. With your situation, I suggest you could try these basic troubleshoot steps:

    1. Make sure your notebooks truly sync to OneDrive

To confirm OneNote isn't the problem:

    • In OneNote for Mac, go to: Notebooks > Notebooks > Copy Link to Notebook
    • Paste the link into your browser.
    • If the notebook opens in OneNote for the web, the server is working. If not, the issue is OneDrive or the folder storage.

    2. Close and Reopen the Notebook (Mac resets its OneDrive mapping)

Microsoft recommends resetting the sync link:

    • On OneNote for Mac Notebooks > Notebooks > Close This Notebook
    • Reopen it from OneNote for the web using Open in OneNote. This forces a refresh of the sync relationship.

    3. Check if OneDrive is running two versions

If you're seeing this message:“Only one version of OneDrive should be installed… the different versions cannot sync the same content.” Check this:

    • Open Finder > Applications
    • If you see: OneDrive.app or OneDrive (Mac App Store).app > You must remove one.
    • If duplicates exist, follow Microsoft’s steps to unlink & reinstall the proper version.

    4. macOS 12.1+ moved the OneDrive folder

Your OneNote notebooks might appear “missing” because OneDrive changed its folder path:

OneDrive moved from ~/OneDrive to ~/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive.

    This causes:

    • Missing notebooks in OneDrive.com
    • “Recent” or “Pinned” items not opening
    • OneNote showing old folder references

    Fix:

    • Open your notebooks manually from the new CloudStorage path:
    • Finder > Library > CloudStorage > OneDrive > Documents > OneNote Notebooks
    • If OneNote was still referencing the old path, you must reopen notebooks from the new one.

    5. Force a Full Notebook Sync

    On Mac:

    • Go to the Navigation panel
    • Control‑click the notebook name
    • Choose Sync This Notebook

    6. Check for corrupted sections

If a notebook loads only after “a long time,” it may have a corrupted section.

    Microsoft recommends:

    • Create a new section
    • Copy all pages from the old section into the new one
    • Sync again
