Hi, I cannot save files from my new Ipad air to my 'shared files' on my onedrive app. I can save to to the other files though that are not shared. I am able to save to this shared file via my PC though. Ive tried signing in/out etc but that hasnt worked. I have also tried saving it in various ways on the Ipad via Ifiles and saving direct but nothing works. In the file it says 'Read only' at the bottom

Thanks

    Hi @Ryan Nash,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you very much for reaching out to us regarding the issue you’re experiencing with saving files to your shared folder on OneDrive from your new iPad Air. I appreciate your patience and the details you provided.

Based on your description, the message “Read only” at the bottom of the shared folder indicates that the OneDrive app on your iPad is currently detecting that you only have view permissions, not edit permissions, for that specific folder. This is why you’re unable to save files to it on the iPad, even though you can still save to other folders or access the shared folder on your PC.

Here are my recommendations, which I hope will be helpful to you:

    1/ Confirm your permissions
If possible, please check with the folder owner or verify online via OneDrive Web that your account (the one used on the iPad) has “Can Edit” access to that shared folder.

2/ Make sure the same account is signed in
On your iPad, please open the OneDrive app and confirm that you’re logged in with the same email/account you use on your PC.

3/ Refresh OneDrive on the iPad

    • Force close the OneDrive app
    • Open it again
    • Optionally, sign out and sign back in
    • Try saving the file once more

    4/ Review and update permissions

Please ask the folder owner to review and update your permissions using one of the two methods below:

A - Re‑check the permission settings directly in OneDrive or SharePoint (recommended):

    • Go to OneDrive Web or SharePoint Web.
    • Select the folder → Manage Access.
    • Confirm that the email address you are using on the iPad is the one listed.
    • Ensure your permission is set to “Can Edit”, not “Can View.”
    • User's image
    • If you are using multiple accounts, please verify that the correct account is logged in on your iPad.

    B - Remove and re‑add the permissions:

    • The folder owner removes your access.
    • Then adds your access back with “Can Edit.”
    • After that, please sign out and sign back into OneDrive on your iPad.

    5/ Contact Microsoft Support

If the issue persists even after these steps, it may stem from a deeper system-level cause. In this case, I recommend contacting your school's IT administrator, who can submit a support request to Microsoft through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. They’ll be able to access system-level information to investigate the issue thoroughly and provide assistance. At the very least, they can offer the most effective workaround to ensure your experience remains smooth and secure.
