Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Could you please share the exact error message you receive when you try to use the Office apps on your Samsung tablet?

When you sign in with your Microsoft account on the Services & subscriptions page, do you see your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription listed there?

    https://account.microsoft.com/services

Please completely uninstall the Office apps from your tablet and restart the device. After the restart, download and install them again from the Google Play Store app.

    Hi, anshika lumb

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Sorry for this frustrating situation that you're encountering. On Android tablets, Word will switch to view-only if it doesn’t detect a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription on the account currently signed into the app, and larger-screen tablets require a subscription for editing.

Because the subscription is tied to your Microsoft account (not the device), being signed into the wrong account or a licensing sync issue is usually what keeps Word from becoming fully editable.

Here are some suggestions you can try to resolve this issue:

Confirm your subscription is on the same account you are using in Word

    • Go to your browser and sign in at Microsoft Account Services, then check that “Microsoft 365 Personal” is active under Services and subscriptions.
    • Open the Word app on the tablet, go to Settings (or Account), and confirm the signed-in email matches the one that shows the active subscription online.
    • If you bought the subscription through Google Play, open the Microsoft 365/Office app or Word and look for an option like Restore purchases, then sign in again with the same Microsoft account used for the purchase. (This forces the app to re-check your entitlement.)

Force Word to refresh the license (most common fix)

    • In Word (and also the Microsoft 365/Office app if installed), sign out of all accounts.
    • Close the apps completely (remove from Recent Apps), restart the tablet, then sign back in with only the subscribed Microsoft account.

Update, then reset the app (fixes stuck “view only”)

    • Update Word (and Microsoft 365/Office) from the Google Play Store.
    • Android Settings > Apps > Word > Storage: Clear cache, then Clear storage/data, reopen Word, and sign in again.
    • If needed, uninstall Word, restart, then reinstall from Play Store and sign in.

Check where the file is saved (can affect editing prompts)

If the document is opening from a business storage location (for example OneDrive for Business or Dropbox for Business), Word may require specific licensing conditions. As a quick test, create a new blank document and save it to your personal OneDrive or the device, then try editing.

Hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you need further assistance.
