Sharepoint Search not showing files

In December we moved some files from other Teams channels to the General channel, and some files inside the General channel from one folder to another. Now some of them are not shown in search results anymore in Search. Nothing else has changed, same users saw them before, but not anymore. Still - user rights are checked in each file, titles are okay -nothing else is changed other than moving them. Tried reindexing multiple times in the past weeks, no help. Anyone else having issues with Search or just us?

  • If your organization's Office 365 Business/Education subscription is from a partner or reseller, and the global administrator is unable to open a service request on your end, contact the reseller's support provider to help open a service request on behalf of you instead.

    All these tried, no help:

    File-level checks

    Verified the file Title metadata is correctly filled.

    Verified the file Name contains searchable terms.

    Verified the file is not checked out (the menu shows “Check out”, not “Check in”).

    Verified the file has no missing required metadata (checked the file’s Details panel).

    Opened the file → made a small edit → saved to force re‑indexing.

    Created a copy of the file in the same library → the copied file also does not appear in search results.

    Versioning and publishing

    Confirmed the document library uses major versions only (“Create major versions” enabled).

    Confirmed the file is a major version (no draft/minor versions exist).

    Verified the file is not pending approval (Content Approval not in use).

    Library and indexing checks

    Performed Reindex document library multiple times.

    Waited for indexing cycles to complete (several minutes and repeated retries).

    Verified library permissions and that the user has full read access.

    Verified that the folder containing the file does appear in Microsoft Search results.

    Verified that other files in the same library do appear in search normally.

    Search behavior tests

    Searched using:

    Full file name

    Partial file name

    Title metadata

    Wildcard

    The folder appears, but the file does not, regardless of query method.
