I need to add two more users to my one drive account because I have hired two new employees and we need to be able to share secure files.

To add users to your OneDrive account, you will need to add them as users in Microsoft 365 since OneDrive is part of the Microsoft 365 suite. Here’s how you can do it:

    1. Sign in to Microsoft 365: Use your work or school account to sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
    2. Navigate to Users: Go to Users > Active users.
    3. Add Multiple Users: Select Add multiple users. You can either add users one at a time or upload a CSV file with their information.
    4. Fill in User Information: If you choose to upload a CSV file, make sure it includes the necessary details like user names and display names for each new user. You can download a sample CSV file from the admin center to help format this correctly.
    5. Assign Licenses: During the process, you will also need to assign licenses to the new users so they can access OneDrive and other Microsoft 365 services.
    6. Finish Adding Users: Review your selections and complete the process to add the users.

Once the users are added, they will be able to access OneDrive and share files securely with your team.

    Dear @Wendy Smith,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you're looking to add a new user to your OneDrive account for secure file sharing. While I wish I could access your account directly to assist you, my role as a forum moderator is to provide general guidance that you can apply on your own.

Since you haven’t specified your account type, I may not be able to provide an exact solution. However, assuming you're using a Work/Business account managed by an organization, you may consider the following steps:

For secure file sharing, you cannot just add new users to your personal storage. You’ll need to create separate user accounts (identities) within your organization’s tenant, each with their own login credentials. Here’s how you do that:

1.Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

2.In the left sidebar, go to Users > Active users.

    3.Click Add a user.

User's image 4. Fill the information for the account that you want to create

    User's image

    1. Choose the domain for the new account

    User's image

    1. If you want to manually create the password, you can untick option "Automatically create a password"

    User's image

Or, you can tick "Automatically create a password" then save the password for later use

    1. If you want your user to update their password on the first log in, you can tick "Require the user to change their password when they first sign in"

    After that, click Next

    User's image

    1. If you want to assign license for the account here, you can tick the license you want to assign

Or you can click "Create user without product license", you can assign license later

    After that, click Next

    User's image

    1. The next page is an optional settings. You can click "Admin center access" to give the account permission to go to admin center

Or if you only want to create a normal user account, you can click "User (no admin center access)"

    User's image

    1. We are on the final step, you can review all the settings and click Finish adding

    User's image

After that, the process is done.

    Repeat for the second employee.

Once the users are "added" to your system, you must set up the sharing permissions correctly to ensure the files remain secure.

    • When sharing a folder, do not select "Anyone with the link can edit."
    • Choose the "Specific people" option so that the employees must sign in with their own accounts to prove who they are before they can see the files.

I hope this information is helpful! Please follow these steps and let me know if you encounter any issues. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. I'm looking forward to your reply.
