Serbian AI Voice "Nicholas" has stopped working

I have created lots of AI Voice files in Azure over the last few days and, until 12th Jan my Serbian choice "Nicholas" was working perfectly. It is now corrupting with slow voice and garbled, not speaking the script I am using. What has happened? This is urgent as I am delivering files to my client this evening.

Sorry for this interruption, are you aware that Azure confirms Serbian can temporarily fallback to neighboring language models with minimal accent degradation. - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/supported-regions-and-languages-in-microsoft-copilot-26de43a1-c176-4908-bef7-29c8c37ac7ce I will advise you to switch voice before synthesis:

Replace: sr-RS-NicholasNeural
With:    sr-RS-AlternativeNeural (if available)
Or fallback: hr-HR / bs-BA neural voices

So, this is not your error, but the Serbian “Nicholas” voice failure is a Microsoft‑side neural TTS regression.

However, you can confirm service health by checking Azure Speech Service Health, Regional rollout notes, Incident history because Microsoft explicitly documents that voice quality regressions require backend rollback. Also, escalate by submit Azure Support Ticket with details voice name, region, timestamp before/after Jan 12, sample SSML input, corrupted WAV output.
