We are the legal owners of the domain Removed PII and fully control its DNS via Cloudflare.

The domain overkast.ai is currently attached to a Microsoft tenant that we do not control and never actively used. The tenant appears to have been created automatically by a reseller (likely GoDaddy). No administrator credentials were ever provided to us.

We do NOT use Microsoft 365. Our email is hosted on Google Workspace.

Because the domain is federated with GoDaddy, any attempt to sign in with Removed PII redirects to GoDaddy SSO. We cannot access admin.microsoft.com to remove the domain ourselves.

DNS verification succeeds (TXT records resolve correctly), but Microsoft Entra refuses to add the domain because it is already bound to another tenant.

We have already opened an Azure support case, but the portal keeps redirecting us between self-help articles and reseller documentation.

QUESTION:

What is the correct Microsoft process to RELEASE a custom domain from a reseller-managed tenant when the domain owner has no admin access to the original tenant?

We are happy to add any DNS TXT record required to prove ownership and request backend release of the domain so it can be added to our Microsoft Entra ID tenant.

If your custom domain has already been verified in another Entra directory. You can do this by entering your domain name in the following URL to retrieve the tenant ID where it is verified:

https://www.whatismytenantid.com/

Once you have the tenant ID, verify whether it belongs to your tenant. If the tenant ID is different and you do not own that directory, the only option is to contact the Data Protection team via a support ticket to request the removal of the domain verification from the existing Entra ID tenant. After the removal, you should be able to verify the domain in your tenant without any issues.

Is there a way to accelerate this? Any other support channel, I paid for support specifically for this issue and is been a day already since we've been struggling to find a solution. We can pay extra for another tier if this can be accelerated, this is blocking us right now.
