My speakers have stopped working this morning, and I've tried restarting the system, but nothing works.

If your speakers have stopped working, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check Volume Settings: Ensure that your volume is not muted and that the volume levels are set appropriately in the volume mixer settings.
    2. Check Audio Services: Make sure that the Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services are running. If they are not, you can start them through the Services application.
    3. Device Manager: Open Device Manager and check for any issues with the audio device. Look for any warning icons next to your audio devices. If you see any, you may need to update or reinstall the driver.
    4. USB Audio Devices: If you are using a USB audio device, try connecting it to a different USB port. Sometimes, the issue might be related to the specific port you are using.
    5. System File Checker: You can run the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to repair any missing or corrupted system files. Open the command prompt as an administrator and type sfc /scannow, then press Enter. After the process completes, restart your computer.
    6. External Speakers: If you are using external speakers, ensure they are properly connected and powered on. If possible, test them with another device to confirm they are working.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to look into more specific troubleshooting based on your audio setup or consider reaching out to support for further assistance.

    Hi, good day!

    • Have you made any changes to your computer recently?
    • What is the exact make and model of your computer?

Press Windows key+R to open Run then type: msinfo32

    Press Enter

Please take a screenshot of the System Information window and post it in your next response. Note: Don't include any personal information or sensitive data as Microsoft Q&A is a public forum.

Please try the following methods below.

    Run the Troubleshooter

Press Windows key+I to open Settings

Select Update & Security > Troubleshoot

Select "Additional troubleshooters" then Run "Playing Sound"

If the internal speaker is missing, the driver may be corrupted.

    Open Device Manager again

Click View tab > Show hidden devices

Expand Sound, video and game controllers.

Right-click your audio device (e.g. Realtek Audio, Intel Smart Sound, Conexant, etc.)

    Click Uninstall device.

Tick "Delete the driver software for this device" box

    Restart your computer.

Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

If this does not work, it would be best to visit your manufacturer's support page to download and install the latest Audio driver for your device.

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below.
