STOP ANNOYING COPILOT CHAT POP UP IN APPS

We use Office 365 for business, Windows 11 Enterprise; OS build 26200.7462; Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.275.0

Starting December 17 each time i open a desktop app (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) i get the MOST ANNOYING POP UP from Copilot letting me know that before i even start a document i can chat with Copilot about it. See snip below.

WHO NEEDS THIS EVERY TIME THEY OPEN A PROGRAM?

More annoying is that i have uninstalled Copilot and yet, still it persists. There is no way for me to turn this new uninvited, absolutely unwanted pop up off. I looked it up, there is no 'Copilot' in my program Options, there no way to stop this annoying thing from coming up.

I request a fix for this. Not everyone is allowed to use AI at their workplaces - there are many issues around that. And new thought: NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO. And so to constantly force this stupid thing on people every time they open an app is INFURIATING and it's only been one day.

Does anyone have a fix for this issue for the desktop apps? If you do, you will be my forever hero!

Jan 16 2016: We also hated the "Chat with Copilot in Word" popup which interrupted our workflow every time we opened Word/Excel/Powerpoint, which happens several hundred times a day.

What did not work: Uninstalling Copilot. Removing the license to Copilot. Trying to use the Options settings that do not exist.

We use Microsoft 365 Apps for Business

We had version 2511

Look up your version: File > Account > One the Product Information Section, look at About PowerPoint and Version.

Users online noted that the popup every time happens up to version 2511, so we updated.

Steps to update:

Close all of your open files, because Microsoft apps will reset when this is done.

In Word, Excel or PowerPoint:

Update: File > Account > One the Product Information Section click Update Option > Update now.

Watch for popups to authorize this. Watch for popups telling you to save any files because it's going to reset.

That's it. It updated to version 2512 and the hated box went away.

One note: I worry that Microsoft will reset which resets my custom settings and takes hours to restore, but this update didn not reset my settings.

I use OneDrive on the web only, via Chrome and Safari. The Microsoft copilot chat files folder always comes back after I delete it. The copilot chat bubble is also annoying. It is beyond my comprehension that Microsoft forces this on its customers with no way to permanently disable copilot altogether. Unfortunately, I paid for the annual OneDrive subscription. Needless to say, I won't renew. The only reason why I subscribed to OneDrive is because of the Word dark mode that Google Drive doesn't have. I will go back to Google Drive because Google's non dark mode is way better than Microsoft's annoying copilot shenanigans.

This is extremely annoying and is a completely unprofessional inconvenience. Promotion or not, not being able to disable this AD makes me want to use Copilot even less.

This is a user-to-user support network.

Microsoft is not hearing about your problems from what you post here. Designers and their supervisors do see feedback. (You will almost certainly not get a direct response to that feedback but they do see it.)

Please give us the option to disable this continuing pop up (asking if we want to chat with CoPilot) or make it a one-time thing. The current practice of having it pop up everytime I use Word or Excel disrupts my workflow and makes me look for ways to turn off CoPilot completely

As to CoPilot...

Since you are using an Enterprise version, you need to talk to your IT department about turning off CoPilot.

The following is for users of 365 Personal or Family Subscriptions who may find this thread in a search but does not apply to Enterprise Versions.

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum. I completely understand how frustrating this popup is, especially in workplaces where AI tools aren’t allowed or wanted. I want to reassure you that what you’re seeing isn’t the Copilot app itself. It’s a temporary promotional banner introduced in a recent Office update. It can show up even if Copilot is uninstalled or disabled, which makes the experience understandably confusing. The popup may disappear automatically in the next few days.

I also tested this on my side, and interestingly, after clicking the “Try now” button once, the popup stopped appearing entirely, even after restarting my PC and open Word and Excel again. I can’t guarantee this will behave the same way for you, but I wanted to share it as a possible quick workaround.
