Entra ID tenant directory object quota shows total=500 (directorySizeQuota) — need quota increase
Hi Microsoft Support / Community,
We are blocked from creating new directory objects in our Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) tenant due to this error:
“The directory object quota limit for the Tenant has been exceeded. Please ask your administrator to increase the quota limit or delete objects to reduce the used quota.”
After checking the tenant quota via Microsoft Graph, the tenant’s directorySizeQuota.total is only 500, which appears abnormally low and is preventing normal operations.
Impact: We cannot create required objects (users/groups/apps/service principals/devices).
What we’ve tried:
Reviewed and deleted unused objects where possible (users/groups/apps/service principals/devices).
Emptied “Deleted users/groups/applications” where applicable to reduce quota usage.
Confirmed the issue is tenant-level quota (directorySizeQuota), not a per-user/principal quota.
Request: Please help confirm why our tenant quota total is set to 500 and increase the tenant directory object quota to the standard/default level (e.g., 50,000 / 300,000 depending on tenant conditions) or to an appropriate higher limit for our environment.
Tenant details:
- Tenant ID: <PII REMOVED>
Please advise next steps or escalate to the appropriate engineering team to update the tenant quota.
Thank you
