I've downloaded 2025-12 Security Update (KB5072033) (26200.7462) three times, and each time it fails to install. Any suggestions or is this a problem with the update. My computer is a week old.

I would suggest not trying to force the update as there is clearly an issue.

I would suggest that you wait for the next update as, MS in all their wisdom, will likely have 'fixed' the issue.

If you try to force the update, be prepared to lose data and reimage your PC !

I just went into WSUS to approve updates. This update and another will not download in the wsus console. That led me to this forum. I'm just going to hold off worrying about deploying the updates until the wsus implementation is fixed and from what you are all saying, it's bricking devices anyways.

About eight days ago, I started trying to install Windows 11 security update KB5072033 (operating system version 26200.7462 / 26100.7462), but the installation repeatedly failed, frequently displaying the message "Update in progress, please keep your computer powered on." Even after restarting, the update could not complete. From December 11th to 12th, 2025, the installation failed for two consecutive days, with error codes 0x800f0991 and 0x80070002 respectively. During this period, the update temporarily disappeared from the "Quality Updates" list and was replaced by the Windows 11 24H2 fix release. At the same time, a folder named $WINDOWS.BT appeared on the C drive; the download progress once approached 100%, then reset to 0% after restarting. Until last night, after the fix release slowly progressed, the update switched back to KB5072033 and finally successfully downloaded, installed, and completed, resolving the problem.
