Hello,

I am unable to access Microsoft To Do, the page hangs on "Getting tasks list ready...".

I tried on multiple browser (Firefox, Edge, Chrome), I tried on different computers and it doesn't work.

Microsoft Support told me it is a Microsoft server issue and advice me to post a question here.

Best regards.

    Hey there, Julien

I have asked someone from Microsoft about this. They have agreed that this looks to be a server side issue with your Microsoft account. They have told me that Microsoft support should have been able to handle this.

They have also asked if you can try opening dev tools (F12) when the ToDo app is loading on the browser.

From inside the dev tools, please click onto 'Network'

    User's image

On the network tab, you may need to click onto reload the page. It will then display the resources it is using. Please can you look for a resource 'experiments.dll.js'

    User's image

Is there an error with that resource or any other resource?

It should be in red with a status code of 500+ or 400

If there is, please can you also pass this onto support when you contact them again.

If support try directing you to this community again or to the feedback site, please can you tell them that only support can help with this issue. You can point them to this reply too, if needs be.

    Link for reference: https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact?ContactUsExperienceEntryPointAssetId=S.HP.todo

If you have issues with support, please let me know. I will then feed this back.

I am sorry it seems like I am passing you back to support, then support are passing you back to this community or elsewhere. I am hopeful that they will take this deal with this.

    Thanks,
    Nathan

    Hey there, Julien

It is looking as though this may be something to do with your account on the servers. However, I can see support directed you to this community, when really they should have their own escalation channels to an engineer who can look into this.

This is going to be a pain, but please can you use this link and sign into your Microsoft account: https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional

Once you have signed in, please scroll down to a section called 'Sign out everywhere'

Please click onto the hyperlink that says "Sign out everywhere"

    User's image

This will force all devices and apps to sign out of your Microsoft account. Once this has taken place, it will ask you to sign back into all of your accounts on your PC, Browser and trusted device.

Once it has done this, please restart your computer. When your computer restarts, please try again with signing into ToDo either on the browser or app. You will need to sign back into your Microsoft account again.

I know you have already said you have tried signing out and back in again. However, I think that was just one app. Not all apps at once.

    Hope this helps,
    Nathan

    Hey there, Julien

Have you tried this through the ToDo app in Outlook or it's stand alone ToDo app you can download through the Windows store?

If not, please can you try by opening Outlook (I am using the new Outlook app) on your PC. Then click onto the Microsoft ToDo icon on the left-hand side menu

    User's image

Does the app open within Outlook?

Hope this helps & Happy New Year,
    Nathan

Hi, thanks for sharing the details. Are you signed in with the same Microsoft account on all devices when the issue occurs?

Microsoft To Do sometimes hangs on "Getting tasks list ready" if there is a temporary server or account sync issue. Here's what I suggest:

    • Sign out of Microsoft To Do on all devices, then sign back in using the same account.
    • Clear browser cache or app cache, then try again.
    • Check the Microsoft 365 Service Health page to see if To Do is experiencing downtime.
    • Ensure your Microsoft 365 subscription or account is active and not restricted.

If the problem continues across browsers and devices, it is likely a server-side issue. Microsoft will resolve it automatically once their servers stabilize. You can also report it through the app using “Help > Report a Problem” to alert the Microsoft team.
