Hi @Varghese, Ajith (Cognizant),

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, Microsoft trials for Project Plan 3 (now Planner & Project Plan 3) are designed for business tenants only and cannot be activated on a personal Microsoft account (consumer tenant). This is why you’re seeing the error message.

To proceed, here are your options:

1/ Use a business tenant:

If you have access to a Microsoft 365 business account, you can start the trial there. Your admin can enable self-service trials in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

2/ Create a Microsoft 365 Business tenant:

If you don’t have one, you can sign up for a Microsoft 365 Business trial, then activate Project Plan 3 within that tenant and sign up for Microsoft 365 Business.

Unfortunately, there is no supported way to enable this trial on a personal account, as the licensing and features are tied to organizational tenants.

I hope my information helps. Please reach out again if you have any questions or need further assistance. I'm always happy to help.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi @Varghese, Ajith (Cognizant),

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

That message typically appears when the trial is being started from a personal Microsoft account (consumer tenant) or when your business tenant already has a Project/Planner SKU or trial that conflicts with what’s in the cart, or the tenant has self‑service trials/purchases turned off for this product. Please note that Project Plan 3 is now Planner & Project Plan 3 and is licensed for business tenants, with premium Planner trials mapping to Plan 3 features and controlled by admins in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Here are a few steps that often help:

1/ Follow the instruction here: How to access a 30-day trial of Planner's premium features

2/ Check for conflicting SKUs or trials:

    • In Billing > Your products, look for any Planner Plan 1 / Planner & Project Plan 3 or 5 subscriptions or trials; cancel/complete an existing trial or convert it before starting another.
Admins can view and manage self‑service purchases/trials and their assignments.

3/ If the cart error persists after trying the above steps:

You can create a support ticket by sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center following steps from this link: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn to raise a support ticket from admin center or calling the phone support to contact Microsoft Support: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.

If you are not an admin, you can contact your admin to contact Microsoft support. You can look for the way to find your admin through this link: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. you’re signing in with a personal Microsoft account, just tell me and we can work together to resolve this.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.
