Do you use a local account in Windows and do you use OneDrive? Then it's probably a known bug. A lot of users are impacted. Best is to report it in the Feedback Hub in Windows.

Hi,
Since October 2025 Windows updates, it's no more possible to enable spotlight on lock screen and login screen. This occurs on my 3 PC's. The standard well known tips to repair spotlight are not working anymore.

Note: I did not test the Windows background.So it wasn't the use of a local account, nor corruption of an account nor several other things and steps in these posts. In short: It wasn't us. It was indeed a bug in Microsoft's programming and they finally fixed it!
