Additional team and channel-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
If your group chat in Microsoft Teams has vanished, there are a few things to consider:
- Teams 1:1 and Group Chats Storage: Messages in 1:1 and group chats are stored in the Exchange Online mailbox of all chat participants. If the chat is missing, it might be due to a temporary issue or a change in your Teams settings.
- Files Shared in Chats: Screenshots shared in a group chat are stored in the OneDrive for Business account of the person who shared the file. If you are unable to find the screenshots in your OneDrive recycle bin, they may not have been uploaded successfully or could have been deleted permanently.
- Recovery Options: Unfortunately, if the chat messages and contents are not retrievable from your mailbox or OneDrive, and if they were not archived or saved elsewhere, they may not be recoverable. Microsoft Teams does not provide a built-in feature to recover deleted chats after they are removed from the mailbox.
If you believe the chat was deleted recently, you might want to check with other participants in the chat to see if they still have access to the messages or files. Additionally, contacting your IT administrator may help if there are any organization-specific recovery options available.
