Document Intelligence Classification Service Hung Indefinitely — Request Stalled with No Response (Root Cause Analysis Request)

On November 6, 2025, the classification service within our Document Intelligence resource stopped responding to classification requests. Every attempt to classify a document resulted in the request hanging indefinitely — there was no success response, no error message, and no timeout behavior. This caused document classification workflows to fail and remain stuck during processing.

The extraction model and other related services continued to function normally during this period. As of today (November 7, 2025), the issue seems to have resolved on its own, and the classification service is currently working again.

Impact:

  • Classification jobs were unable to complete for several hours on November 6, 2025.
  • No indication or alert was received from the Azure side during the downtime.
  • Processing pipelines dependent on the classification service were blocked.

Actions Taken:

  • Verified the request payloads and endpoints — all configurations were correct.
  • Retried with multiple documents and different models — issue persisted.
  • Restarted dependent services and verified credentials — no change.
  • Service resumed normal behavior automatically on November 7, 2025.

Request: We would like Microsoft to investigate and share:

  1. The root cause of why the classification service was unresponsive on November 6, 2025.
  2. Whether any internal service degradation or outage occurred during that timeframe.
  3. Any recommended preventive measures to avoid recurrence.

Expected Outcome: A detailed explanation of what led to the classification service hang and confirmation that the underlying issue has been fully resolved at the platform level. On November 6, 2025, the classification service within our Document Intelligence resource stopped responding to classification requests.
