Hi team,

Sorry I have to login another hotmail account to ask this question.

This question is for my hotmail account: <Mod remove PII> @hotmail.com

I can't login my own hotmail account <Mod remove PII> @hotmail.com, I've reset passward, however everytime I try to login, system asked me parent's consent , but I'm over 18 !

I don't know who set up this for my email, can you please remove this retriction for me to allow me login my hotmail account.

Hi Kelly,

Thank you for sharing your issue. It looks like your Hotmail account is messed up and you're a kid, so it's asking for a parent's permission, even though you're an adult. This usually happens if your birthday on your Microsoft account is wrong or if you used to be part of a Microsoft Family group.

Here's how to try and fix it.

Log in to your Hotmail account.

Look at your birthday.

If it's wrong, change it so it shows you're over 18.

Save it, log out, and log back in.

If you can't change your birthday because you've changed it too many times, you might have to fill out the Microsoft Account Recovery Form.

Getting Out of the Microsoft Family Group

Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family.

See if you're listed as a kid in a family group.

Since I can’t login my account now ( system asking parent consent ), I can’t login account to change birthday and get out from family group. Can you tell me how can I do it? Thanks!

My Hotmail account was recently hacked. I have already reset my password successfully, but now the system requires parent or guardian consent to log in. I am an adult user, and this request seems to be a mistake.

If your Hotmail account is asking for parental consent, it means the system thinks the account belongs to a child. This often happens if the birthdate was changed during a hack. Unfortunately, Microsoft support cannot remove the restriction manually.

The only way to regain access is to recover the account through Microsoft’s official recovery page:

https://aka.ms/recoveraccount

If you no longer have access to your old verification methods, Microsoft will place your account into a 30‑day security reset. After that period, you’ll be able to sign in again, correct your birthdate, and remove the family/child status.

Hi, thanks for trying to help. I just wanted to add a clarification for anyone who runs into this issue.

When an account is blocked by a parental‑consent requirement, the user can’t sign in to change their birthday or leave a family group. Microsoft support also can’t remove the restriction manually.

The correct next step is to use Microsoft’s official account recovery process: https://aka.ms/recoveraccount

Once the account is recovered, the user can sign in again and update their birthdate or family settings.

Thanks for your response.

I've went to Microsoft's official page https://aka.ms/recoveraccount and reset email password.

System has sent a code to my another email for verification, I've input code and successfully reset new password for my email ******@hotmail.com

However, when I use new password to login email account, system came out with parent's consent again & asked me to input code when Microsoft sent code to my another recovery email address. This comes a circle. Even I reset password, I still can't get rid of parent's consent page.

How to resolve it? How to contact with a Microsoft technical support directly?

Hi Kelly,

Resetting the password doesn’t remove the parental‑consent block. When an account is flagged as a child account, Microsoft requires the age to be verified after sign‑in, but because you can’t get past the consent screen, you’re stuck in a loop.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Support cannot manually remove the child/parent restriction. They also can’t change the birthdate or override the consent requirement from their side.

When this happens, the only way forward is to wait for the 30‑day account security reset to finish. During that period, Microsoft locks the account so no one (including support) can change the security settings. Once the 30 days are over, you’ll be able to sign in normally and update your birthdate to remove the child status.

There isn’t a direct support line that can bypass this — the system has to complete the security hold first.
