Wassup, How you doing?

I went to Xbox support 1st, but there's just an AI that was of no help, so I am attempting a last hail mary since the Xbox Community was deleted or hasn't been transferred yet for some reason

It seems that Xbox defaults itself to 4k, 60fps, HDR, when you check the option, Allow 4k, and Allow HDR10; this is fine because we have an option to uncheck, Allow 4k.

However, when you uncheck, Allow 4k, 1080p 60FPS, 1080p 120FPS, 1440p 60FPS, and 1440p 120FPS, all no longer work with HDR even though you can select it now, no games are in HDR; this is extremely inconvenient, so a fix would be greatly appreciated. We should be able to play in HDR, at 1080p 60FPS, 1080p 120FPS, 1440p 60FPS, 1440p 120FPS, and any non 4k one that I may have missed, on all games

That is a major work and would not be able to fix with just a hot patch or quickfix via update. It needs HDMI timing, revised EDID and changes to directX display driver. (technically it can be done but there is no timeline when)

A new console would likely re-design the video pipeline to allow independent HDR at all supported resolutions from the start.

Hi!

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

This is essentially a limitation of the firmware level in the Xbox video pipeline and cannot be corrected from normal settings.

You might have noticed the "Allow 4K" checkbox: when you tick this, the console negotiates a 12-bit, 4K HDR10 or Dolby Vision EDID handshake with the display. If you untick it, the console falls back to the 8-bit RGB / YCbCr timing tables for sub-4K modes.

The current firmware for Microsoft, as of the Nov 2025 build, does not re-negotiate HDR10 for 1080p or 1440p unless the display reports explicit HDR support at those lower resolutions and the console keeps the 4K flag active.

So the “Allow HDR10” checkbox appears selectable but the HDR metadata stream never actually starts because the EDID path isn’t reinitiated. HDR is tied to the 4K mode handshake right now.
