I have an old surface RT. I have forgotten the password and would like to factory reset the device, however resetting the password from another device doesn’t work (I reset the password and then enter the new password which results in me being prompted with the same message “navigate to “X” website to reset password), neither does the “shut down, volume up” reset method (nothing happens), nor the “shift, restart” (the laptop runs a standard restart)

Hi Snoop,
To reset your Surface RT, you can do it in settings, or with the buttons if you can't get in. Here's the easy way:
If you can get into the system:
Swipe in from the right to get to the Charms bar.
Hit Settings, then Change PC settings.
Go to Update and recovery, then Recovery.
Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, hit Get started.
Pick if you want to just remove your files or clean the drive completely.
Hit Reset and wait for it to finish. It should take about 30 minutes.
If you can't log in:
Hold Shift and hit Restart on the login screen.
In the recovery menu, pick Troubleshoot, then Reset your PC.
Follow the prompts to erase everything and reinstall Windows RT.
Regards,
Rez
