Looks like my Browser has malware. The "Norton Safe Search Enhanced" extension is locked and does not let me remove it. I have tried running and scanning the Microsoft Windows Security software but it could not remove it. Please help!!

Hi, I'm having the same problem. I downloaded Farbar and it's scanning, but it gets stuck. Can you help me?
Try scanning in safe mode.
Right click the start button, hold down the shift key and select "Restart"
At the next screen select:
Troubleshoot => Advanced options => Startup Settings => Restart => press option 4 "Enable Safe Mode" or 5 "Enable Safe Mode with Networking"

Hi, I have the same problem. I'm trying to follow your procedure but Farbar get stuck while scanning. I tried your directions to start scanning in "safe mode" but doesn't works. "Right click the start button, hold down the shift key and select "Restart"" I try right click on the start button (Scan?) but no windows open. Can you help?

And okay, I don't remember exactly what happened but I wondered some days ago why Chrome was kind of 'reset', asking me again to sign in and none of my 2 profiles were connected. It may have been smth like that i thought legit.

You need to use a Fixlist written specifically for you, not just some random Fixlist you've found on the internet.
Please follow the instructions in the following post and provide logs for analysis. I will then write a Fixlist for you.

Avoid warez sites, cracked software. Be wary with game mod sites as malware sometimes gets uploaded to them. Download software from the author of the software where possible or highly regarded download sites.

Looks like working but i can't restart Edge or reinstall google chrome now. I try to reinstall Edge but it won't work. Any Ideas ? I have a recent backup of my computer, i thinks i'm gonna use it :)

See if the registry policy keys can be removed this way.
First download ExecTI - https://winaero.com/execti/
Scroll down the page and click on Download "ExecTI" then scroll down on the next page to Click here to download the file.
Run ExecTI and enter powershell.exe then click OK.
In the Powershell window run the command below:
reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /f; reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Edge /f;
Then in Microsoft Edge enter into the Address bar edge://policy/ and click enter.
Click Reload Policies.
OK. Did it. FYI, in the Powershell I again got ERRORS. See below...
After this I went to Edge and edge://policy/, and clicked Reload Policies, and get this screen.
Let me know if need any more info??? I still see "Norton Safe Search Enhanced" extension and it is locked. thank you.
It's those policy keys that need to be removed. Once they're removed the extension will be gone.
Close Microsoft Edge, then open Task Manager and up the top enter msedge
Right click and End task on any Edge instances that may be running. After that try the Powershell commands again.
If you still have no luck, go into Defender and click on Threat quarantined and see if you can restore Farbar. Earlier you clicked on Threat blocked which doesn't have that option.
OK. End task on msedge, and the retry Powershell commands did not work... still get Errors in Powershell. Next was able to restore Farbar and run it, but it FREEZES while Scanning Other Area ... see below? It is stuck and I cannot even close the Farbar.. window. Any ideas?? Thank you.
Has it created even partially FRST.txt and Addition.txt?
You should be able to right click Farbar's icon in the Taskbar and End Task.
Only way I could end it was through the Task Manager. Yes, it did make the FRST and Addition files. See links below. Please let me know what you find. Thank you.

I try reg delete and "Access denied"
I try FRST but in desperation, I deleted the "Norton Safe Search Enhanced" extension folders, but that didn't help. In fact, now FRST doesn't detect this extension. What should I do?
