How to fix sign in for microsoft account on Minecraft bedrock

It will not let me sign in to my microsoft account I have tried restarting my PC, Minecraft launcher, and just Minecraft itself and it hasn't been working I have the error message "We could not sign you into your Microsoft account. Access to Realms, Profiles, and your Marketplace items will be limited. Please try again later. Error code is Drowned

Im almost at the same point. What's interesting is, the accounts on the machines when the Minecraft update happened are the ones with the issues. We have 4 Minecraft microsoft accounts and the 2 having issues were signed in when the update rolled out and the others are fine.. I dont understand wtf is going on but not being able to reset your Microsoft account data is not good when issues like this happen.

I'm also experiencing this issue, and sent in a support ticket to Mojang. Hopefully they will get the memo multiple players are experiencing this issue and patch it. Until now we may just need to use the workaround and play the waiting game.

I'm also getting Bedrock giving "drowned" error when signing in. Also, it now asks for a sign-in when launching the game, which it usually doesn't. I have tried for two hours to fix this issue, here's what I've done so far:

Signed out/signed in of: Xbox, MS Store, Minecraft Launcher. (Removed account from login)

Restarted my PC.

Changed my Microsoft password.

Deleted the contents of ...\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.XboxIdentityProvider_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\TokenBroker.

Removed Windows credentials relating to xbox/mojang.

Repaired (didn't fix), Reset (didn't fix), and finally uninstalled Minecraft Launcher and Minecraft for Windows.

Restarted my PC.

Ran "sfc /scannow" to fix any Windows errors.

Tried on the Xbox Series S - this worked - so the account seems good/valid. But it doesn't solve my PC issue.

Bought the game via Microsoft Store on PC, reinstalled the game. (didn't fix)

Asked another family member to sign into Minecraft Bedrock - his account worked and could sign-in without a Drowned error.

Removed windows credentials and signed out of all accounts accounts again.

Made sure all "xbox" related services were running on Windows.

Signed in as myself/launched game separately from Microsoft Store, Minecraft Launcher, Xbox game. Got the same Drowned error every time.

None of these steps have worked and now I'm out of ideas and options.

That “Drowned” error usually means minecraft isn’t able to grab your xbox / microsoft auth token, not that your account is broken. it’s pretty common after an update or if the token cache gets corrupted.

What usually fixes it: – sign out of the xbox app and the microsoft store, then sign back in – Open the microsoft store → library → hit get updates (minecraft + gaming services often need to refresh) – in windows settings → accounts → email & accounts, remove any old microsoft account entries that are “not syncing” – finally, restart and launch minecraft after the xbox app is already signed in

If it still throws “Drowned,” you can also reinstall gaming services via powershell, but most of the time the store + xbox sign-in refresh clears it.

Let us know what happens. Drowned is annoying but almost always fixable

I’m also getting the Error Code: Drowned when trying to sign in on Minecraft for Windows v1.21.120.

I’ve tried every known fix:

Restarting the game and PC

Clearing account sign-in data in Minecraft

Repairing/resetting the Microsoft Store, Xbox app, Gaming Services, and Minecraft

Reinstalling the Xbox Identity Provider

Clearing all cached Xbox/Microsoft credentials (XblGrts, MCLMS, SSO_POP) in Credential Manager

Deleting Minecraft’s local cache folders

Re-adding my Microsoft account and removing this PC from my Microsoft account devices list

The same Microsoft account works on my other Windows computer running Minecraft v1.21.114, and other Microsoft accounts sign in fine on this affected PC.

This strongly suggests it’s a Microsoft account token or device-trust issue specific to this machine, not a local install or network problem.

We have also the same problem.. (did reinstall, delete of apps, sfc scan, etc. etc., even reinstalled whole windows 11, no change) that "workaround" with disable of the network interface also "works", but not really, as it seems it still cannot connect to our own server when enabling again. So it looks like some local cached profil. Fun Fact. It also happens to Roblox Login (hanging in a loop where it cannot open the Roblox Frontend)... Other MS Games with MS Login are working (Flight Simulator 2024, Sea of thieves). But it seems to only happen currently on the Family Account from my boy (this account).

Realms and online play don’t work for me right now, but I can still use my saved worlds with the temporary workaround.

Would removing the parental permissions from my child account possibly fix this? I’ve been discussing it with my dad, Windows keeps warning me about admin privileges because I code my own apps and use the terminal, so I need to stay an administrator.

I found that changing my date of birth on my Microsoft account fixed this problem. If your account is part of a Microsoft family as a child account, try setting your age to 18 or older at account.microsoft.com/profile under Your info → Edit date of birth.

After saving and signing back in, your account should be treated as an adult account. It might take a little while to update, usually within a few hours (around 3 hours in my case).

I was having this exact issue and I just fixed it. I got the Microsoft authenticator app on my phone and used that to sign in. Then I had to wait like three minutes and finally (after messing with this for 4 hours) I got it to sign in. I'm literally never going to sign out again this was so frustrating....

Apparently this is a known issue (citation below). I'm furious - the amount of contempt that Mojang has for their customers drives me nuts. I entered a support case and at the end of the instructions ("If it still doesn't work") - call your ISP support. As if only Minecraft of the 100 other devices on my network is somehow impacted by my internet service and only when my kids login...UGH!!!

I am also like this, I use an Android device or cellphone when logging into a Microsoft account. Hey so we are having this EXACT same issue since the new update rolled out. We have found if we turn off the internet, go all the way into bedrock, then turn it back on once in it will load our profile. You have to do it every time, though. Or another work around that seems to work is to go in, then toggle off wifi and toggle it back on and it seems to load. Hope this can help you!

We figured out an issue to logging in by “Hey so we are having this EXACT same issue since the new update rolled out. With internet connected load "Minecraft for Windows" - login when requested (Let's go button) and get to the Minecraft home screen. At this point you won't be logged in, so there will be a "Sign in" button on the left.

Turn off your internet connection.

Click the "Sign in" button.

Reconnect to the internet.

PLAY!

Worked for me. Started everything up - couldn't sign in as usual - unplugged my ethernet cable - clicked sign in, and immediately was logged in - reconnected network cable and played as usual

Sounds like an exact issue here also. After going through uninstalls and installation and searching services, and restoring from past system images, it was down to ONE microsoft account could not log in from ONE computer on any Bedrock update from .120 onwards (including the Beta Preview).

Other accounts, OK. Other computers, OK.

Tried the "disconnect the network cable" when Bedrock was loaded and "signing on" and it does allow that connection. Can access store. Not sure about saved files. Only partial wardrobe load.

Microsoft botched something and needs to fess up and fix it.

Thank you very much. This helped me I was losing my mind. If you have Ethernet unplug your ethernet while you're already in Minecraft and it says the error code then, replug it in and it should work.

Sorry, put this in a comment as well. Executing this repair tool as the impacted user fixed my issue. Not sure if executing as one user fixes everyone. This is a relatively recent change made by the Microsoft/Mojang team. Before approximately 11/4/2025 nothing fixed the issue.

This fixed the problem.

Before error code "DROWNED" and "disconnect the network cable" was the workaround.

Immediately after using this tool, not only does it connect without the special disconnect-first-hack, but it also stops the spam of asking which account to select.
