General Application Instability in Windows 11

Hi, I'm a previous Windows 10 user who, like a lot of people, was forced to buy a new computer when I was forcibly upgraded to Windows 11. Thank you Microsoft.

This OS change has come with a lot of stability issues. Windows Explorer will frequently hang and crash. Returning this error:

These crashes are incredibly common, happening upwards of 4 times per hour and can be triggered on-command by toggling my USB KVM.

Along with windows explorer, I frequently encounter crashes with Firefox, Discord, and 90% of the time lose access to the snipping tool shortcut (win-shift-s)

I have tried running both sfc scans, and dism restores, to no avail. I have had this computer for a month.

Why is this OS so unstable, and why was the entire Microsoft userbase pigeon-holed into using it if it is not stable product (Aside from the obvious huge check from Open-AI)?

Hi Nathan,

I did some research and see other users also reporting Explorer crashes, however, you are able to trigger the behavior by toggling your KVM, so I'd like to start there. If you unplug the KVM and use the keyboard/mouse that is directly connected, is Explorer stable?

Please check to see if your PC is producing any minidump files. Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump > Copy any minidump files onto your desktop and zip them > Upload the zip file to Google Drive or OneDrive and create a share link. Please post the link here so we can analyze the files.

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your response. Things appear to have stabilized over the past few days. I'm not entirely sure how or why, but I'll keep an eye out for the issue to pop up again.

For now, I've zipped up the contents of my minidump directory, as requested. I only found one file there and it was from September, so I'm not sure if it'll hold any real clues, but I've shared it on OneDrive just in case it does help.

Some additional info. I noticed yesterday that the KVM switch crashes had resumed, so I tried a direct connection as suggested. On unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in, Explorer also crashed.

I'm using a Logitech G600 mouse that uses Logitech's GHub software for button assignment. I tried closing this software and that appears to have mitigated the explorer issue, even with the mouse running back through the KVM.

I'll check and see if having GHub closed resolves other software crashes I'm experiencing. If it does, I'll follow up with Logitech Support and let them know about the issue!
