dev.azure.com/vscode having auth issues (federated login)

I can login to my Microsoft account, but whenever I then navigate to https://dev.azure.com/vscode, I need to login again, and then I get redirected to https://login.microsoftonline.com/common/federation/oauth2msa where it says:

AADSTS50020: User account '[myemail]' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant 'Microsoft' and cannot access the application '499b84ac-1321-427f-aa17-267ca6975798'(Azure DevOps) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account.

Is there some problem with my account or is this happening for everyone?

I really need to push an update to https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=mastro.mastro-vscode-extension and my personal access token is expired :-(

Hi mb21,

The error usually occurs if you are making use of Personal Microsoft account to access resources in tenant.

In your case, you are trying to access application '499b84ac-1321-427f-aa17-267ca6975798' i.e., Azure Devops organization but as the user account is not part of the tenant the error is triggered.

To resolve the error,

Sign in using Azure AD work/school account which is already part of the organization.

Otherwise, if you still want to sign in using personal Microsoft account, you need to add the account as external/guest user in the tenant and assign the appropriate role to the user to access the resources in the Tenant.

Refer the doc https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/external-id/b2b-quickstart-add-guest-users-portal to invite the user as guest.

@Pravallika KV the application in question is https://dev.azure.com/vscode (which is run by Microsoft), so I cannot "add the account as external/guest". Also, I'm not part of a business or school. And besides, this used to work just fine.

mb21, I agree with you, you need to add external account in your tenant not in the application. Work account works as it is part of your tenant, please refer the doc to invite the user as guest. Go to Azure Portal -> Users -> New user -> Invite guest user.

I'm sorry, but this whole thing https://dev.azure.com/vscode (tenant and app) is managed by Microsoft, not me. It may be a different part of the org, but it's still Microsoft.
