I absolutely hate the Windows 11 setup, and hate that I am forced to use OneDrive for storage and if I unlink it my files dissapear! I hate that microsoft office requires annual payments to operate! I use to like using my computer but it is now so frustrating!! Mutiple file locations and listings that are all connected and can't delete one without deleting all other locations of it! I hate that it is even on my personal access manager micro disk! Those file are all controlled by the cloud now and that just sucks! I feel violated and controlled!!!

    Hi Shirtag,

Microsoft has increasingly integrated cloud services like OneDrive and subscription-based apps like Microsoft 365 into Windows for several reasons like seamless syncing across devices, automatic backups to prevent data loss and subscription model for continuous updates and features. But this can feel intrusive, especially if you prefer local storage and one-time purchases.

Before unlinking your OneDrive, go to your OneDrive folder and copy your files to a local folder (like C:\Users\YourName\Documents). Then you can safely unlink OneDrive without losing access.

As for Office, if the subscription model isn’t for you, there are still one-time purchase options like Office 2021, or free alternatives like LibreOffice or Google Docs.

Disclaimer: LibreOffice and Google Docs are great free alternatives, but they may not fully support advanced Microsoft Office features (like complex macros, formatting, or compatibility with enterprise templates). If you rely on those features, it's worth testing before switching completely.

Try the "^" on the right side of the taskbar. From there, right click on OneDrive and disable sync/log out. From there, go to the search bar (middle of the taskbar) and type in "installed applications" you should be able to uninstall OneDrive. This fix should work for the average consumer.

MS will try to force-install OneDrive pretty often, when you update windows

    Advanced:
If you get a new PC or are using MS for business computers and don't ever want to deal with OneDrive (Common gripe for programmers/designers), you'd have to "local install" windows offline through commands + add commands/scripts to block OneDrive from installing (if MS tries to auto-install later with an update). Any google can walk you through that- it's not hard but takes time. This ensures OneDrive never gets installed, and can never rewrite file pathing (preventing long path errors).

    Hope this helps
