New surface laptop is crashing my fibre network

Thanks for contacting us about the problem you're having with your new Surface Laptop. It's understandable that you're annoyed that your whole network goes down when you connect your new laptop mainly since your other devices all work fine let me help.

This might be happening because your Surface Laptop's wireless card doesn't play nicely with your router's software or settings. People have had similar problems where new Surface devices (especially ones that use Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7) mess up older networks. This can happen due to issues with wireless ways of doing things, how your router assigns addresses or even battery saving options that mess with how stable your network is.

Here are some things you can try to fix it first run the surface diagnostic tool after the scan it will show any issues found and offer fixes apply recommended updates or repairs. Restart your Surface Laptop connect it to your fibre network and observe if the issue persists. Make sure your Surface Laptop has the newest Windows updates. Update your router to the newest version from the company's web page. Try giving your 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands different names and connect your Surface to the 5GHz one.

If that doesn't do the trick, try giving your Surface its own address to avoid address problems.
