The solution for AMD laptops is to open Device Manager, find "Sound, video and game controllers," right-click the "AMD Bluetooth Audio Device," select Disable device. If it doesnt work immediately then try a reboot. This worked for Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Gen 5 AMD. Evidently a recent AMD driver update causes this problem.

Update: Adding a more complete solution from Georg's comments:

    • Roll back AMD Audio CoProcessor from 6.0.3.116 to 6.0.0.109.
    • Roll back AMD Bluetooth Audio Device from 6.0.3.37 to 6.0.0.31.

Turns out there might be problems with Microsoft distributed AMD Bluetooth drivers. Have a look at this post:

    https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/rog-ally/bluetooth-headset-connected-but-has-no-sound/td-p/1125842

My driver for AMD Audio CoProcessor was downgraded from 6.0.3.116 to 6.0.0.109.

My driver for AMD Bluetooth Audio Device was downgraded from 6.0.3.37 to 6.0.0.31.

    Everything Works fine now.

Is there any hope at all that Microsoft will eventually fix this? Right now, the IT dept at the company I work for is basically telling me that they no longer support bluetooth devices for use with our laptops. It was suggested to me that I switch to a MacBook, because bluetooth works with those.

For my AMD laptop, the issue is solved in the AMD Audio CoProcessor driver version 6.0.3.117. Just do "sudo apt upgrade"... haha kidding. No, I have no idea where this driver comes from. Did it come with a manual AMD Catalyst update, from Windows Update, from some Lenovo Thinkpad Useless Advantage Upgrading app? Maybe Microsoft CoPilot installed it. Who knows? Good luck.

Same problem here for months (basically since MicroSoft announced its AI productivity boost for Windows). DELL PC with Intel; Sony, Shokz, Bose headsets: Bluetooth output, and most of the time the mic is not registered at all, and when it is it doesn't mean that the input is available. The only permanent fix is to reboot the PC like it's 1995 again. But Windows 95 was way more stable.
