My Microsoft Authenticator app isn’t showing a code for my Azure account—how can I sign in or reconnect it?

I received a bill from Microsoft and want to check if it’s related to my Azure account. When I try to log in (I’ve only used Azure a few times to experiment), I’m prompted to “Enter the code displayed in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.”

However, my Authenticator app doesn’t show any code or approval request for Azure. The only account listed is my regular Microsoft account, and its code doesn’t work.

How can I access my Azure account or reconnect it to the Authenticator app so I can sign in?

Do you use a Microsoft personal account to sign into Azure or a business account?

Can you remember ever setting up Microsoft Authenticator?

Microsoft are making it mandatory for all Microsoft business accounts that have access to the admin controls to have two-step verification enabled. I thought I used my personal account, is it possible to have both a personal and work account with the same email address?

I though I did, perhaps on an old phone? Would Azure let me sign up without setting up Microsoft Authenticator?

No. You would be logging into two separate accounts. You can add both a personal and work email as a security proof, so you can get email alerts or use the email to receive code when you need to recover your password. However, you cannot link both a personal and work address together for one account. Not if they are Microsoft accounts.

Would Azure let me sign up without setting up Microsoft Authenticator?

It would do in the past. However, with the recent changes Microsoft have made, it should ask you to set up Authenticator.
