An Azure service that provides a general-purpose, serverless container platform.
Container App Environment OpenTelemetry endpoint is not sending the data to the Application Insights
We've setup the OTel Endpoints in the Container App Environment.
We are using the Application Insights as the destination for Traces and Logs. The connection string is good and the setup has been made using the az cli script:
az containerapp env telemetry app-insights set \
--resource-group RG \
--name CAE \
--connection-string "InstrumentationKey=KEY;IngestionEndpoint=https://centralus-2.in.applicationinsights.azure.com/;LiveEndpoint=https://centralus.livediagnostics.monitor.azure.com/;ApplicationId=ID" \
--enable-open-telemetry-traces true \
--enable-open-telemetry-logs true
As result it is properly set as Configured and our Container Apps got the additional environment variables:
declare -x CONTAINERAPP_OTEL_LOGGING_GRPC_ENDPOINT="http://k8se-otel.k8se-apps.svc.cluster.local:4317/v1/logs"
declare -x CONTAINERAPP_OTEL_METRIC_GRPC_ENDPOINT="http://k8se-otel.k8se-apps.svc.cluster.local:4317/v1/metrics"
declare -x CONTAINERAPP_OTEL_TRACING_GRPC_ENDPOINT="http://k8se-otel.k8se-apps.svc.cluster.local:4317/v1/traces"
declare -x OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_ENDPOINT="http://k8se-otel.k8se-apps.svc.cluster.local:4317"
declare -x OTEL_EXPORTER_OTLP_PROTOCOL="grpc"
declare -x OTEL_RESOURCE_ATTRIBUTES="service.instance.id=CONTAINER_APP_NAME_ID,service.namespace=CONTAINER_APP_ENV,service.version=CONTAINER_APP_NAME_ID"
declare -x OTEL_SERVICE_NAME="CONTAINER_APP_NAME"
It is clear that the settings are OK.
Now we are trying to send data to these endpoints using opentelemetry SDK in Python and while it is connecting properly the data is not in Application Insights.
We are searching in table named "traces". There are just nothing from the Container App we have...
What should we do to check our setup and is is possible that we need to adjust the Application Insights itself to support incoming logs & traces from the Container App Environment OTel Endpoint?
