I understand that when you are trying to set up MFA in the Microsoft Entra Id, you are seeing this error - AADSTS55203: Configuring multi-factor authentication method is blocked.
- Login to the Azure Portal: Microsoft Entra ID → Authentication methods.
- Under Policies, check each method (Microsoft Authenticator, SMS, FIDO2, etc.).
- Click into the method → ensure:
- Enable = Yes.
- Target = All users, or specific group including your user.
If your method is not enabled here, you’ll see the AADSTS55203 error when registering.

Thank you for your response. The SMS authentication method was previously configured in our B2C Entra as you described and was functioning correctly until last week, when it suddenly stopped working. Currently, users can only authenticate via email. We also have a Conditional Access policy in place that requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
Strange behavior. I intended to raise a support ticket with Microsoft, but I am unable to find the option to do so.
