The list of people you’ve connected with or invited through the GroupMe app.
Hi Kimberly,
Thanks for reaching out! I totally understand how frustrating it is to accidentally transfer ownership of a GroupMe group especially when you need to manage it yourself. It’s an easy mistake to make, and you’re definitely not alone in this.
In GroupMe, once ownership of a group is transferred, only the new owner can assign it back. There’s no built-in way to undo the transfer yourself, and Microsoft doesn’t offer a manual override for this. It’s designed this way to protect group privacy and prevent unauthorized changes.
To get ownership back, you’ll need to:
Contact the person you transferred it to.
Ask them to go to the group settings, tap Change Owner, and select your name.
Once they confirm, you’ll be restored as the group owner.
If they’re cooperative, it’s a quick fix. If not, you may need to create a new group and re-invite members.
Let me know how it goes, I’m here to help!
