Hi Shanice Bryan,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
Thanks for sharing, and I'm sorry to hear you're facing such a frustrating issue. You are not alone! Other users have previously reported similar behavior with their camera, with some worked solutions you can check out here: Your camera is reporting that it is blocked or turned off by a switch or button on your device. - Microsoft Q&A
1 - Look for a physical camera shutter switch:
- Many modern HP laptops have a literal physical slider switch that you can slide with your finger. It's often near the camera lens, or under the laptop (less likely but worth checking).
- Run your finger along the top edge of your laptop's screen, right where the camera lens is. If you feel a small switch, slide it to the "open" or "unblocked" position.
2 - Use the function key (Fn) on the Keyboard
- There is usually a shortcut button on the top row (F1-F12) that you can use to turn the camera on or off.
- Find a key with camera icon. It's often F9 or F10 on HP laptops, but it can vary depends on your model.
- Press the button if it's already media key, if not, try pressing the combination of Fn key + the camera key.
If the issue persists, it could be very helpful for further analysis if you can share System Information: Press Win + R > type msinfo32.exe > Enter > copy the information or take a screenshot of the window (remember to hide private info). Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
