Can't log into Azure.com using my personal account

Azure.com has locked me out entirely because I use a personal account to get in. But the Authenticator is apparently different than the one on my device. The codes on my authenticator for my personal account are 8 digits, and the ones accepted by Azure MFA are fewer digits. Also, sending a request to my authenticator from the login flow does nothing.

There is no other way for me to get support on this, since I can't log a ticket until I log in. :(

And this Azure account is NOT associated with my work. Every single thing around the Azure login seems to be geared towards work accounts.

When a single tenant is locked out via MFA (like you only registered for Azure using your personal email), the only solution is to get a ticket with Data Protection team and then have them walk through finding the onmicrosoft.com account related to the subscription/tenant and resetting MFA for the personal account. Or else they can take a few days and look up by billing information. Either way, this has to be initiated by calling the global support numbers and stating that it is a single tenant lockout and you are the only global admin and need help from Data Protection team to reset. Have a subscription ID (and tenant ID if at all possible) and be prepared to wait for at least a few days.

    Hi @jayinatlanta,

The recommended approach is to first attempt account recovery via the Microsoft Account System. If that fails, investigate Azure AD Guest User Status. As a last resort, create a new Azure account.

Step 1: Account Recovery via Microsoft Account System

    • Description: Initiate the account recovery process through the Microsoft account recovery page.
    • Explanation and Calculations:
      • Navigate to https://account.live.com/password/reset.
        • Enter the email address associated with the Azure account.
          • Select recovery options like recovery email or phone number.
            • If those are unavailable, complete the account recovery form with as much accurate information as possible.
              • Wait for Microsoft to review the submission (24-72 hours or longer).

Step 2: Check Azure AD Guest User Status

    • Description: Determine if the personal account was added as a guest user to an Azure AD directory.
    • Explanation and Calculations:
      • Ask a contact with Azure AD access to check if the email address exists as a guest user in their directory (Azure portal -> Users -> Guest Users).
        • If found, request the Azure AD administrator to reset MFA settings or remove the account.

Step 3: Create a New Azure Account (If All Else Fails)

    • Description: Create a new Azure account with a different Microsoft account if recovery is impossible.
    • Explanation and Calculations:
      • Go to the Azure portal (portal.azure.com) and sign up using a different personal Microsoft account.
      • Utilize the free tier to explore Azure services.
      • If necessary, migrate resources from the old account to the new one. Step 1: Account Recovery via Microsoft Account System
