Question

Is Microsoft retiring/decommissioning Promptflow ? if yes - what is the alternative?

Maheshwari, Aashish 5

Hello,

We have build RAG based chatbot using proptflow where the promptflow end point is consumed by UI client App. Also we are using promptflow for evaluating the responses from the LLM.

Wanted to check on - Is Microsoft retiring/decommissioning Promptflow ? if yes - what is the alternative to quickly migrate from Promptflow to some other tool/service without impacting the client App communicating to the promptflow?

Hi Maheshwari, Aashish

It is a crucial part of RAG pipeline in Azure ML and Foundry and There is no official post from Azure mentioning prompt flow retirement yet.

Hi Maheshwari, Aashish

Just wanted to add that you can use prompt flow from both Azure ML and AI foundry resource.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/machine-learning/prompt-flow/overview-what-is-prompt-flow?view=azureml-api-2

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-foundry/concepts/prompt-flow

You can use Designer from AML or Agents as possible alternate solution.

Hope it helps

Hi Manas,
Thanks for your responses.

The problem is that prompt flow provides unique capabilities and benefits that simple agents or even A2A do not have currently in Azure Foundry at a low/no code level. For example, the visual nature of a multi-agent flow where there are conditional decisions being made to process a request are unique for both design and sustainability. The simplicity of adding agents or code or just an LLM visually is powerful and simple here.

We have invested many hours of work and training into the integration of prompt flows and not have a path and equal or better technology to transfer these into seamlessly would have significant negative consequences for those of us who invested in this very good approach provided by Microsoft.

I understand technology moves forward, I just ask that we wait for the technology to catch up to the benefits provided by prompt flow and to provide an equal/better transition path that enables low/no code development work like it does before that transition happens.

Best,
