Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I am writing to report an issue with my Extended Security Updates (ESU) subscription.

I had an active and valid ESU subscription for my device. Approximately one month ago, I obtained this subscription through a special promotion (not a paid purchase or points redemption), and the ESU banner appeared and stayed active in my Windows Update settings.

Recently, I experienced a problem with my operating system and was forced to perform a clean reinstall of Windows. After the reinstallation, I signed in with the correct Microsoft account that is linked to my subscription.

However, the ESU subscription did not automatically reactivate. The banner is now missing from my Windows Update page, and when I run the slmgr /dlv command, it only shows the basic Windows license without any mention of the ESU entitlement.

I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps without success:

Signed in with the correct Microsoft account.

Checked for Windows Updates multiple times.

Ensured that the Windows Backup feature is enabled.

I believe the ESU digital entitlement is still active on my account, but the new Windows installation is not correctly recognizing it. I would appreciate any assistance in reactivating my subscription.

If the ESU entitlement was previously active and the same Microsoft account is being used after the clean installation, this sounds like an entitlement/activation synchronization issue rather than a basic Windows Update problem. I’d recommend checking the ESU eligibility and activation status with Microsoft Support, as reinstalling Windows may require the device to be re-associated with the existing ESU entitlement.

When you re-install Windows, that usually changes the Hardware ID of your PC which originally had the ESU registered, have you installed the August update after re-installing Windows, if so, you will probably see the offer to join the ESU again on that device, it may not happen immediately, but it will appear on the Updates window in the Settings App.

I have a similar problem. I had to do a "repair install".
I get the prompt to join the ESU, but when I try it says my computer is allready enrolled.
But this does not show under "windows update" and no updates are offered.
So apparantly some local setting on my PC got lost when "repair installing".
And since I can re-enroll (it just says the system is allready renrolled), what do I do?

Found this answer in another thread and that fixed the issue here:

Open Start.

Search for Command Prompt (or Terminal), right-click the top result, and choose the Run as administrator option.

Type this command to set the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service to start automatically and press Enter:

sc.exe config DiagTrack start= auto

Type this command to enable the DiagTrack service and press Enter:

sc.exe start DiagTrack

Type this command to add the following Registry key and press Enter:
reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Policies\Microsoft\FeatureManagement\Overrides" /v 4011992206 /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f

Restart the computer.

Open Start. Search for Command Prompt (or Terminal), right-click the top result, and choose the Run as administrator option.

Type this command to enable the Extended Security Updates program and press Enter:
cmd /c ClipESUConsumer.exe -evaluateEligibility reg.exe query "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\ConsumerESU"

Restart the computer.
