How to turn off Slideshow of Onedrive "On this day" photos

This is an answer to the thread called Onedrive photos? My memories from this day is now horrible bc of Slideshow , which is now locked (why?) so I couldn't answer it there. To go back to the regular display of pictures from that date over the years, click on the hamburger menu (the vertical ellipsis in Safari or something like it in other browsers) and choose "View all photos". That takes you back to the usual display, at least with Safari. 'Course, like many others, it appears, I would rather have Slideshow be a choice accessible from the usual display than vice versa.

If Microsoft insists on adding these unwanted "features", then it would be nice if they also added a way to opt out. I enjoy seeing my "on this day" photos, but I don't need AI generated garbage slideshows with cheesy music as the default and apparently only way to view them. Give the option to go back to a list of photos taken on a specific day as it was before.

When the annoying slide show starts, in the upper right corner is a button labeled View Memory. Click that and it will turn off the annoying slide show and show the photos like it used to. It would be really helpful if it was possible to disable the annoying slide show.

Dear Microsoft: Just because some MS programmer or manager likes this cheesy slideshow capabity does NOT mean it must be shoved down every user's throat EVERY SINGLE TIME they click on one of your "On This Day" links. If MS believes this slideshow is "SO cool" or "SO clever" that everyone MUST see it at least once, then keep it as the default; but at least give users an option (via a "settings" or "preferences" selection) to thereafter "skip the slideshow" entirely & just go directly to the photos. It was silly of you not to have done this originally when you imposed the slideshow and now -- after so much user opposition to seeing/dealing with the slideshow every time -- it seems arrogantly defiant that you have not yet implemented such an option for your users.

The slideshow feature doesn't even load in the Firefox browser. I feel like it's 2002 again and I'm expected to use a Microsoft browser for everything.

Hi John,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community. I understand that you want to turn off the OneDrive Memories or the On this day photos. I'm here to help.

Let’s go through a few steps and check if it helps resolve the issue:

Click the OneDrive icon on the taskbar.
Click the gear icon in the top right corner and select Settings from the menu.
Once the OneDrive Settings window appears, click Notifications in the left column
Toggle off the Notify me when “On this day” memories are available option from the list on the right.

Once you complete the steps, you will no longer receive “On this Day” memory notifications

I don't think the user was requesting how to turn off on this day feature but just to how to switch back to the old version as I agree the slideshow is not wanted.

you misunderstood the request. It's the sideshow not the on this day memories. The slideshow is the problem. Read the question again please before providing an unhelpful answer. This onedrive slideshow is a monstrosity and it needs to be turned off.

Microsoft just does not get it. I want on this day but the simple option to click on a photo to see the jpg or similar source file in its original one drive location to download it. Nothing more.

You did not answer the question! The poster wanted to know (as do I) how to (a) keep getting the "On This Day" notifications and (b) upon following that email link, NOT see a slideshow but, instead, ALWAYS be taken directly to a page showing ALL the photos from that historical date, as was the pre-slideshow practice. If that cannot be done, please provide contact info for the Manager of the programmer who decided EVERYONE must endure that cheesy slideshow! That manager needs to hear from those of us who don't want to see that slideshow AT ALL but DO want to see our historical photos! At least provide us an accessible option to skip the slideshow and once again view on a single page the photos from "that date in history". We want this feature FIXED to provide user choice; we are not asking for a total "on/off switch".

Another microft joke. If you do not like what we force on you, you cannot use the feature. If you do not like and want to use "slideshow" you cannot use "on this day" This response was all but useless.

We want to turn off the SLIDE SHOW. Not the memories. It's totally ruined. I used to get the pictures, I loved going through them, and I started sorting some, etc.. but now with the stupid slide show.. it's annoying. I hate them. I want PICTURES BACK! not a stupid slide show that your company decided we have to have when it's not what we want. If you're going to make changes like this, you should at LEAST give people the OPTION on how they wish to view the images. You gave us something, took it away and make something worse. Horrible.

I agree that you did not answer the question asked. I enjoyed the slide show prior to this change. Viewing the photos that are now displayed on a black background that cannot be removed or changed along with the blurred background above and below the photo is absolutely horrible. I want to keep the slide show but there is no way to restore the former settings. The new settings are horrible.

As I said in my feedback to your message, I don't want to not get the "On this day" notifications. What I don't want is the slide show of them, which is apparently the default. And now, on Safari, my preferred browser for a variety of reasons, the slide show never even starts so that I can choose "View Memory", or whatever it is. This is a very stupid and inconsiderate move by Microsoft. I would expect better... or maybe not.

It's unfortunate Microsoft didn't originally include an "opt out" setting to permit users to avoid having to see this silly slideshow every single time they access the "On This Day" feature. Initially, I thought it was merely an oversight and that MS would promptly correct it once notified many users don't like it. But after seeing ALL these user complaints over ALL these months and with MS providing NO credible explanation for why this insipid slideshow cannot be made user-optional, it now seems obvious that this "slideshow effect" is so loved by some pigheadedly-stubborn senior manager (or programmer) that s/he is doggedly insisting users must not be permitted to opt out of "experiencing" it every time they wish to see their own "On This Day" photos. SHAME on Microsoft for allowing this sort of purely "user-defiant" conduct by any employee.

This is not the solution people ask for. We do like seeing 'on this day' s photos. And we can choose to get notified for a new selection. But what we hate is that if you want to scroll through these photos it is not possible. You see these in a slideshow with stupid music, instead of being able to click/swipe through the photos yourself.

In addition to being unwanted this feature takes a ridiculous amount of time to load. It's like being back on dial-up waiting as a photo draws line by line. The difference is that after 10 minutes the dial-up photo has loaded while I'm still waiting for a feature I don't want to load so that I can go back to viewing just the photos. Once it loads (if it ever does) you can click the three dots to go to the photos.

Anyone get an update on how to turn this feature off? Tired of the slideshow. Also don't like the update to how the photos are displayed. Still trying to figure it out. Maybe it will get easier once the silly slide show is gone. Please Microsoft get rid of it, or if there is a fix, please community provide solution.

I could not agree more about getting rid of the cheesy slide show. I still want to see old photos, but allow me to decide whether I want your show.
