A specific functionality or enhancement provided by Windows Copilot
Dear Leni B,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns about your experience with Copilot. I’m so sorry for the frustration you’ve been feeling. It’s clear this has been a challenging and confusing time for you, especially since you’re working on something as important as writing a book.
- You mentioned that Copilot doesn’t remember what you discussed the day before, even when it says it will “hold” or “save” the information. This happens because Copilot doesn’t retain information from previous sessions due to privacy and security reasons. Each time you start a new conversation, it’s treated as a fresh interaction, and Copilot doesn’t have the ability to recall past discussions. At the beginning of each session, briefly remind Copilot of the important details from your previous conversation. For example, you could say, “Yesterday, we discussed [specific topic]. Let’s continue from there.”
- Copilot is taking a long time to generate responses, sometimes making you wait for hours. This can happen when requests are complex or involve generating a lot of content at once. While Copilot is processing your input, it can feel like a significant delay, especially when you’re eager to make progress. Try asking for smaller pieces of content at a time. For example, instead of asking for an entire chapter, request a section or a few paragraphs. This can help speed up the process and reduce waiting times.
- It’s understandable to feel thrown off when Copilot agrees to a plan but then produces something different. This can happen because Copilot doesn’t retain the full context of your project across sessions, and it might misinterpret your instructions if they’re not reiterated clearly each time. At the start of each session, remind Copilot of the overall goal and the specific steps you’re working on. For example, “We’re writing a book about [topic], and today I need help with [specific task].”
I want to assure you that Copilot doesn’t need “wires adjusted” or a reboot, it’s simply operating within its current limitations. That said, your feedback is incredibly valuable, and I encourage you to share your experience through the Feedback Hub. This helps Microsoft understand what users like you need and could lead to improvements down the line.
Thank you again for your patience and for sharing your concerns. Your dedication to your project is inspiring, and I’m confident that with a few adjustments, you and Copilot can get back on track. I wish you the best in finishing your book.
