Copy & Paste From OneNote Issue

Recently I have been having issues with copying anything from OneNote and pasting it into another application such as a web browser. I have found that if I paste it into notepad it works, and then I could copy from there, but that becomes quite frustrating and time-consuming. This issue started a few days ago and did not exist before that.

I have consulted GhatGPT and Grok and it seems this issue has been reported by others, but I can't find a fix. Some troubleshooting methods suggest a repair but I only get options to do this on windows. I am running the OneNote client as part of office 365 on a MacBook.

A temporary solution I have found is to right click > 'Paste and Match Style'

I prefer to use the keyboard shortcuts since it is much faster for me.

The issue is not resolved. I opened a support ticket with our helpdesk and I have been told that this is related to a Forcepoint update and seems to affect Macs only.

Use the Paste Options - I do not have this options when I am trying to paste into applications, such as service now.

Check for Protected Content - It is not.

Use Plain Text as a Workaround - This method does work, but it is very time-consuming and not something I should have to do.

Clipboard Issues - the contents are being copied to the clipboard just fine.

Update OneNote - This is O365 and I have verified there is no update available.

Reinstall OneNote (if Necessary) - this seems to be the only option I haven't tried yet. I am not hopeful it will resolve the issue.

    Hi,

Thank you for using Microsoft products and making community posts.

I understands the importance of resolving this issue, Don’t worry I will be helping you with this following steps.

    Use the Paste Options

    • After pasting content into your destination app, click on the small clipboard icon that appears (on Windows) or check the paste options (on Mac).
    • Choose Keep Text Only to remove unwanted formatting.

    Check for Protected Content

    • Ensure the content you're copying from OneNote isn't part of a protected section or locked notebook.
    • If it’s protected, you may need to unlock the notebook or use a different section.

Use Plain Text as a Workaround

    • If formatting issues persist, try pasting the content first into a plain text editor (e.g., Notepad) to strip all formatting, then copy it again from Notepad and paste it into the desired location.

    Clipboard Issues

    • If OneNote fails to copy anything to the clipboard:
      • Restart OneNote and your device to clear any clipboard glitches.
      • Ensure no other apps are interfering with the clipboard.

    Update OneNote

    • Check for updates to OneNote in the Microsoft Store or via your app store. New versions may fix bugs that cause copy-paste issues.

    Reinstall OneNote (if Necessary)

    • If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall OneNote. Make sure to sync and back up your notes first!

Do let me know if you require any further help on this. Will be glad to help you.
