Hi Ishant,
Thanh you for posting in Microsoft Community.
I understand that you're facing an unexpected issue where you are unable to log in to the SharePoint Android mobile app using your E3 Developer Account (onmicrosoft.com). This is particularly puzzling since you can successfully access SharePoint via a browser on the same Android device and from a Windows PC. The error message: "You can't login to this, your admin needs to assign you a SharePoint and a OneDrive license to do this" strongly suggests a license-related issue, even if it seems contradictory for an E3 Developer Account, which inherently includes these licenses for development and testing purposes.
Possible Causes and Recommended Solutions:
1. Check Microsoft 365 Service Health:
- Before diving into specific troubleshooting, it's always a good first step to check if there are any ongoing service incidents that might be affecting SharePoint Online, OneDrive, or authentication.
- As the admin of your tenant, go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (admin.microsoft.com) > Health > Service health. Look for any active advisories or incidents related to SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, or authentication.
2. License Not Fully Provisioned/Synchronized for Mobile Access:
While your E3 license covers SharePoint and OneDrive, the mobile app might have a stricter or slightly delayed license check compared to browser access (which often has more lenient authentication or different caching mechanisms). It's possible the license assignment hasn't fully propagated to the mobile authentication services yet.
- Wait longer: If you recently created the developer account or assigned/activated the license, it can take up to 24 hours for all changes to fully propagate across all Microsoft services. Please wait for a full day if you haven't already.
- Re-assign the license: As the admin of your developer tenant, go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (admin.microsoft.com):
- Navigate to Users > Active users.
- Select your E3 Developer Account.
- Go to Licenses and apps.
- Uncheck the E3 license, click Save changes. Wait a few minutes (e.g., 5-10 minutes) for the change to register.
- Then, re-check the E3 license and click Save changes again. This process often forces a re-sync of the license assignment.
- Check specific service plans: Within the E3 license details for your user in the Admin Center, ensure that "SharePoint Online (Plan 2)" and "OneDrive for Business (Plan 2)" are explicitly toggled On. Sometimes, a general license assignment might not enable all sub-services by default, especially in developer tenants.
3. App-Specific Caching or Data Corruption on Android:
The SharePoint mobile app on your Android device might have cached old credentials or an incomplete authentication token, preventing a fresh login.
Action:
- Clear App Data/Cache: On your Android phone, go to Settings > Apps (or "Apps & notifications") > locate SharePoint.
- Select Storage & cache.
- First, tap Clear cache, then tap Clear storage / Clear data.
- After clearing, Force Stop the app.
- Then, try logging in again.
- Reinstall the App: If clearing data doesn't work, uninstall the SharePoint app from your phone, restart your phone, and then reinstall the app from the Google Play Store.
4. Conditional Access Policies (Less likely for a fresh developer tenant, but possible):
Your developer tenant could have Conditional Access policies configured in Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) that restrict mobile app access, even if web access is allowed. This is more common in established production environments, but worth checking.
Action: As the admin, navigate to the Microsoft Entra admin center (entra.microsoft.com):
- Go to Protection > Conditional Access.
- Review any policies that might be enabled. Look for policies that apply to "SharePoint Online" and specify conditions like "Device platforms" (e.g., blocking Android) or "Client apps" (e.g., blocking mobile apps). If you find any, try temporarily disabling them to test.
5. Test on Another Device or Platform:
Since you can log in on PC and via the browser, if possible, try logging in with your E3 Developer Account on another Android device or an iOS device to see if the problem is specific to your current Android device or a broader account/tenant configuration.
If none of the above solutions work, let me know for further investigation. Providing any specific error messages you encounter during the login attempt would also be very helpful. Please note that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
Kind regards,
