Are OneNote Notebooks saved locally on Mac after an account is deleted?

Hi,

I’ve been using the OneNote app on my Mac with my school Microsoft account and have created many notebooks tied to that account. Since I’ve recently graduated, my school account is scheduled to be deleted in a few months.

I’m confused about how OneNote handles local backups on Mac. If I have the OneNote app installed and the notebooks have been synced/downloaded to my Mac, will I still be able to access them after my school account is deleted?

Specifically:

Are OneNote notebooks stored locally on Mac in a way that allows access without the original account?

If I sign in with a different Microsoft account after my school one is removed, will I still be able to open or move those notebooks?

Is there a way to export or transfer them to ensure I don’t lose anything?

I want to make sure I keep access to these notes before the account is shut down. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Local Storage on Mac – OneNote primarily stores notebooks in OneDrive, meaning they are cloud-based. However, OneNote for Mac does create local backups if enabled in settings. You can check this by going to OneNote > Preferences > Backups.

Access Without Original Account – If your notebooks were stored in OneDrive (school account), they will likely become inaccessible once your account is deleted. If they were backed up locally, you may still be able to access them.

Signing in with a Different Account – Unfortunately, OneNote does not allow transferring notebooks between accounts directly. If your notebooks were tied to your school account, signing in with a different Microsoft account will not automatically restore them.
