How do I get work back on a document that deleted my work but won't let me see previous versions of the file?

I was writing a document and I was moving my laptop from one location to another and then I left for a little bit and then when I looked back the document was still open but most of my work was gone. When I try to undo, it says that I can't undo and when I try to see my version history I see two previous versions of the file but when I try to open them I get a message that says "oops we can't show you this version of the file". I don't have internet connection issues and for some reason I can only see some of the work I did and its not even the first work that I did. It's just random work that is still left on the page. Is there anything I can do to fix my version history or get my work back.
