The read-aloud voice used to be a very smooth speaking female voice and overnight it changed to a robotic voice. When I go into the settings it says I have to be signed in to change the voice. I am signed in. I tried signing out and resigning in deleting the app and reinstalling but it still says the same thing. I am using an Android with the mobile app. I was originally using just the word doc connected to my OneDrive I've even tried the Microsoft 365 app still same results. How do I get the old voice back?

I have the same issue. I worked with MS Office support and have been told it is an issue with the Read Out Loud service on the Microsoft server end. They are working the issue now and hope it resolved soon.
This happenned to me as well! I even listened to some premium Microsoft voices I could download and install, but they are no way near as pleasant and natural as the prior one that was automatically used with the "Read Aloud" feature in Word.
I have a corporate account and the voice remains fluid. However my personal copy (full MS 365 annual license) it is a robot and says to select other voices I must log in.

I am having the same issue, and I hate it! The other voice was smooth and kept you interested in the readings, making it easier. These robot voice suck! and to answer David, the female voice is not the same.
This happened to me today as well. I signed out and back in again, updated license, but when I click read aloud, it says to choose a voice I must be signed int to my Microsoft account. Seems like something is broken suddenly.
