One Drive folders changed to Internet Shortcuts - FOR THE SECOND TIME!!!

March 2025 and this is still happening. How about Microsoft just focuses on NOT BREAKING THINGS THAT USED TO WORK PERFECTLY WELL, instead whatever it is that they're doing with our data, money, time, and effort?!
It's becoming really frustrating to just see features THAT USED TO WORK just stop working all of a sudden, because someone at Microsoft decided to "improve user experience" by making completely unnecessary changes to push adverts and data collection.

As soon as I'm able, I'm switching to Linux. I'm getting sick and tired of these tech giants taking our money, fees, time, data, anything and everything, and just RUINING things that used to work. And in the meantime - ABSOLUTELY NO ONE FROM MICROSOFT TO OFFER VIABLE, ACTIONABLE SUPPORT!

Makes me furious that you mess with people's time, money and work, all because you can't respect the consumers who gave you the leading position you currently hold.

I have been fighting the same issue on our Win10 and Win11 computers this week. It started with a complete resync of OneDrive files over the weekend.

However, it only affects my personal/family account - my business OneDrive account on the same computer is not affected thank goodness. Perhaps it is due to the OneDrive version running on that server end?

What I don't understand is why no one from Microsoft is communicating on this issue and providing a date by which the issue will be resolved. If it's not going to be fixed then I will be forced to look at alternatives (iCloud being the obvious one for me) as I can't work with the current set up.

MICROSOFT what have you got to say????

We still have this problem on a windows 10 laptop. Fine on my Windows 11 laptop.

Why and how do we fix this?

Paid for family subscription, with apalling support.

I don't know if this will work for others, but I stumbled across a solution since I just had this experience. I found all my folders in my recycle bin. I never put them there but for some reason they were there. I clicked "restore" and that fixed it all.

Most of our folders that disappeared and showed as internet shortcuts, were in the recycle bin. Restoring them sort of resolved the issue as upon restoration from recycle bin, the folders & files were restored but were renamed with the new name using the computer's name at the end. The renaming was because of the existing internet shortcuts with same name. Deleted the internet shortcuts and renamed the restored folders to their original names. There still some folders missing that are still internet shortcuts though.
