One Drive folders changed to Internet Shortcuts - FOR THE SECOND TIME!!!

In June 2024, my shared One Drive folders changed to Internet Shortcuts. Despite trying any suggestions we could find, and hearing nothing but canned responses from MicroSoft, we opted to spend a weekend changing to a new email address / MicroSoft / One Drive account after 6 months of frustration.

Today, that new account once again changed my One Drive folders to Internet shortcuts. Besides going through the entire new email address process again, have I missed any workarounds for this?

    After suffering with this issue for months on my Win10 PC, it has just corrected itself! It happened sometime in the last 2 weeks, but I'm not exactly sure when because I have been out of town. I do see that the monthly cumulative update was installed on 5/15 (KB5058379 for my 2H22x64 version) and I verified that there were OneDrive files included in that update, so perhaps that had some impact. I don't recall that I checked the status of this issue just after the update reboot before I left town, so I can't say for sure unfortunately.

    Don't know why it only affects some installs, but there IS hope as others have said...

    I first noticed this happening to me about a week ago. So frustrated. I didn't notice it at first, so I have no idea if I did anything to trigger it. But *really* need it back. And not just adding storage-as-a-service of M365!

    And *some* of my shared folders work fine, and others to not. Nothing obvious about the difference between them.

    yes, it wont make any differences. and you dont have to try to change account, or relink account, or reinstall onedrive or even reinstall windows,,, i've done it, no changes. and you dont have to wasting your time to contact support too, it wont helping us.

    I just started having this same issue last month (May 2025) with one of my family members folders that are shared with me. Now all of my family members that have shared folders with me are converted the "Internet Shortcuts" in Windows Explorer. However, now I'm also seeing the same thing happening in the OneDrive App for Android.

    I see this is a known issue due to this article - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/onedrive-shared-folders-shortcuts-showing-up-as-internet-shortcuts-a69c3dfe-fa69-4c00-9331-0057d0e2aa83. Unfortunately, this article does not give an ETA on a fix, nor any useful suggestions on how to fix this.

    I have already had my family members delete and reshare the folders with me, but this made no difference.

    ... and after all this messy things happens, microsoft still increasing the subscription price while they (still) can't figuring out how to solve their onedrive problems... *until now

    what are you microsoft? a startup company? FIX THIS!
