How do I stop Copilot interfering with my documents? I removed the app but it is still there like an embedded virus. Word for Windows.

Copilot should never be active by default, in any application. If users are foolish enough to enable it on their own, that's on them. but the vast majority of users, who have to rely on products such as Word, do not want any AI interference with their work product. As a professional writer, this can cost me financially.

At this point, I am seriously considering going back to WordPerfect, which hasn't been updated in years, just to be rid of the AI intrusion into my workflow.
Don't want it in my word processing, my spreadsheet's, me cellphone, my tablet, or anywhere else.

Thank you so much. I have a sheet where I change a few things then copy and paste that paragraph to another sheet, CoPilot is always unhappy with my punctuation. This is great!

I love how helpful yall are. I'm trying to decide if I can continue with Microsoft when I have to buy another computer when Microsoft 10 is not there anymore. I might just have to go back to a Google Chromebook. That is funny because they upgrade and stop support all the time. The difference is they don't cost so much.

Can they please add this to ALL apps via Microsoft 365.

I use Microsoft for Mac and haven't yet found a way to get rid of it. As the previous question highlights, Copilot is like a virus that is impossible to disable. I didn't ask for it, it wasn't part of my deal. And I definitely want to get rid of it.

I did this "turning of Enable Copilot". It does not permanently turn it off. It only turns it off for the document you are working in at the time you disable it. As soon as you open a new document, it appears again. I sure hope MS fixes this quick as it is highly annoying and completely unnecessary. The default should be NO Copilot. Then users who want to use it can turn it on if they wish.

UPDATE: After disabling Copilot in a blank Word document, I completely closed the Word app and then re-opened it. I then opened a new blank word document and Copilot did not appear. So hopefully that is now a permanent shut down of something that was not needed in the first place.

It is permanent until you turn it back on, if you do.

It is also possible that Microsoft will switch it back on, but I doubt that will happen.
